How to Properly Prep Skin
1. Start hydrating your skin inside and out 2-7 days before. gulp down water and slap on some cream. Dry skin can often show up as "alligator skin". a spray tan will only relieve how thirsty your skin is!
2. Wax , shave, epilate your unwanted hair 12-48 hours before to allow the pores to close. Dotting may appear if not adhered to.
3. Exfoliate with an exfoliation mitt or a natural scrub 12-24 hours before. this step is very essential for a flawless, smooth glow.
4. For the entire 24 hours before your appointment avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products, oil based products or in-shower moisturizers. These products may act as a barrier against your skin and can prevent the fast acting tanning agents to develop.
5. If you need to wash your hair the day before, make sure your hair doesn't touch your back with shampoo or conditioner for this can also create a barrier for your spray tan.
Day of Appointment
1. It is best to avoid using soaps and shampoos in the shower immediately before the tanning appointment, instead, the client should take a “bird bath” to gently remove residues with hand and water only.
2. Rinse in shower with luke-warm water and if you are able to do a cold rinse, I highly recommend. If you remove unwanted hair the same day of appointment, make sure to do a cold rinse before you get out of the shower. Dotting in the pores may appear.
3. Dry exfoliation with a exfoliation mitt or rough towel to ensure all dead skin cells to be sloughed off.
4. . drink lots of water!
5. After shower do not put any perfumes, oils, serums, moisturizers, makeup, deodorant, etc.
6. Wear loose-fitting, dark, cotton clothing. Avoid silk; refrain from wearing close-toed shoes and socks, tight restrictive pants, tops, and bras; and do not wear white.
Maintain
1. Shower in cold – lukewarm water for 45 seconds ONLY after your desired development time. Use plain water, don’t use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos or loofah during the first 24 hours after your treatment.
2. Pat your skin dry. Do not rub or scrub your skin.
3. Moisturize everyday post-appointment, 1 to 2 times a day. Use a MineTan Everyday Glow Gradual Tan so the tan is continually being topped up and your tan lasts longer.
4. Use products that is oil-free, water-based, and contains minimal fragrance-this type of product will be best in improving the longevity of a spray tan. Clients should avoid using Coconut Oil as a moisturizer. This concentrate will strip your spray tan.
5. After 5 to 7 days, exfoliate with a soft body polish on a daily basis, to help your skin absorb even more moisturizer and keep it looking and feeling gorgeous. This also helps the tan fade naturally, rather than in patches. Note, shaving, waxing is a form of exfoliation, if you shave or wax, your tan may be removed.
6. Daily soaps and washes will also affect the longevity of a spray tan. It is best to use water-based oil-free products. Soaps and washes with harsh ingredients and a large number of sulfates will slowly strip the tan diminishing its lifespan. Ask your Esthetician, Keyla for suggestions.
7. Activities that may cause excessive sweating may cause stripping of the spray tan.. As well as, chlorine and salt water. If you plan on going on a vacation, the tan may not have the longevity of well maintained tan.
